"Time To Love" Press Release

Chris Rusin Releases “Time to love”

I grew up in Minnesota about a mile and a half from the railroad tracks and my bedroom window overlooked a lake from the second floor. As a kid, I used to look out at that lake and think of everything I was gonna do and everywhere I was gonna go. A little over 3 years ago, when I was first diagnosed with cancer, I flew back home with my wife and kids for Christmas. I was back in my childhood bedroom but I couldn’t sleep. I was 6 days post surgery where I had found out it was metastatic. I looked out that window and the lake was frozen. Everyone else was asleep and I wrote this song.

How “Time To Love” Became Pivotal for me

“Time To Love” won me a spot in Pat Pattison’s master class at The Song School 2024 in Lyons Colorado, where I also got to play on stage for the first time since being cancer free and met a bunch of musicians that I would later collaborate with. It is also the first song I recorded when I got into the studio for this project. I struggled through the first couple of vocal takes thinking about looking out over that frozen lake a few years prior and now being in the studio with a Grammy nominated producer (Andrew Berlin).  Most of those first takes are what made it into the finished song.
Special Thanks to Russick Smith (cello), John Paul Grigsby (upright bass), and Jason Livermore (mastering).

Time To Love also features a music video that puts images to the story of the lyrics and is dedicated to my cancer treatment team and all those health care providers that do the fighting. Any income that I make from this song or video will be donated to cancer research and treatment.

“Time To Love” Lyrics

I’d lie awake when I was little

Stare at the lake out in the middle

At the moonlight streaming ‘cross the waterline

I’d hear the whistle from the train

Tracks go everywhere I’d never been

Wailing out my heart for the girl I’d find in time

I’m up late, and I’m back home

But the lake is frozen up

She’s right here but I’m alone

There’s a train out there that just keeps rolling

And there’s a flame in here but it’s not enough

I used to dream of the love I’d find in time

Now I dream of finding time to love

They say I’d be the last to get this

I’ll start chemo after Christmas

These stitches are the easy part.

I check the kids and watch them sleeping

I sit and listen to them breathing

We’ve barely even made a start

Oh god don’t let this be the end

Cause there’s a train out there that just keeps rolling

And there’s a flame in here but it’s not enough

I used to dream of the love I’d find in time

Now I dream of finding time to love

I’ve come to far and learned too much for it all to add to nothing

When we’re so close to being happy

There’s a train out there that just keeps rolling

It’s not my time, I’m standing at the station

I used to dream of the love I’d find in time

Now I dream of finding time to love

Time to live

Time to love

Time to live

Time to love
