Tossed Aside -A Chill song for a summer night
For release August 13th, 2025
The general idea of Tossed Aside is that sometimes you need a new partner and sometimes, if you’re lucky, you find that new partner in your current one. It reminds me of a time when I was at a dive bar awhile back and there was a guy complaining about his wife over a few beers, “…hell I don’t know. I mean what are you gonna do,” the guy asked after a long string of complaints. An old man at the far end of the bar broke the silence that followed and he said, “you sit down and you write an instruction manual to your wife’s future new husband. By the time you’re done, you’ll realize that you’re writing it to yourself.” It wasn’t until awhile later that I thought back and wondered why that old man was drinking alone? Was his the voice of reason or regret? Either way I hope you enjoy my tune.
Making Tossed Aside
I laid down the initial guitar part for Tossed Aside while staying up all night at the empty studio with the only intern that was still awake on the controls. To me, that late summer night sort of feeling comes through in the song. I am joined again by a great singing partner and I wish I could tell you who it is but she chooses to remain anonymous. Backed by Russick Smith on Cello, John Paul Grigsby on Bass, Shane Zweygardt on drums, and Katie Wise on piano. Produced and Engineered by Grammy Nominee Andrew Berlin and Mastered by Grammy Winner Jason Livermore.
The video for Tossed Aside consists of one minimal continuous shot overlaid with lyrics.
With its evocative blend of Indie Folk and Singer Songwriter styles Tossed Aside is a chill song that is sweet enough to listen to over and over.
“Tossed Aside” Lyrics
Him:
She won’t fight for attention but she would love to dance
and she knows that she’s worth it but it’s on you to see that
tell her that she’s beautiful ‘cause she sometimes forgets
that you see her like I did in her white dress
Hold her like I did when I thought it was over
Both:
not the way that I did as it all fell apart
How could a love so deep and a heart so wide just get tossed aside
Her:
He’s always felt like an outsider so just let him in
‘cause all he really needs is you to believe in him
and though he acts like he’s a cynic made of stone
on the inside he’s a boy on his white horse.
Hold him like I did when I thought it was over
Both:
not the way that I did as it all fell apart
How could a love so deep and a heart so wide just get tossed aside
tell me why
interlude
Him:
She’ll keep on working when she knows that she shouldn’t
Both:
help her like I tried to when she drowned but I couldn’t
and if she breaks your heart she didn’t know that she could do it
Him:
that she has the power, you’ve got to remind her.
Hold her like I did when I thought it was over
Her:
Hold Him Like I did When I thought it was over
Both:
Hold me like you did when you thought it was over
Just hold me
